How long can a property distribution last in a divorce?

In a divorce how long can the property distribution part go on for?

Years if it is contentious. One particularly famous case currently in West Virginia (and dealing with about 12 million dollars) has been before the WV Supreme Court of Appeals three separate times over a period of nearly seven years.

Honestly, like most lawsuits, unless a settlement is reached, a highly contentious divorce can proceed through appeal and re-appeal and re-litigation for a decade or longer, so long as the parties continue to pump (waste) money in an attempt to stick it to the other side.

The only way to get a quick divorce is to settle as amicably as possible through mediation.

And this isn’t even counting how long a “divorce” gets drawn out through a custody dispute — in those cases the real conflict of divorce can go on almost forever (or at least until the child reaches 18 or graduates college).
